  13. I have a Mac II with 8 one meg simms and I'm constantly running out of memory even with RamDoubler2 ... I'm running system 7.0.1 and I want to get more memory than just the 12megs RamDoubler2 gives me (even though it say's  it'll give me 24megs) so I can run Netscape Comunicator.

  25. What you have is the infamous 32bit Dirty (ie 24bit 68020) processor. By turning on 32Bit addressing [Mode32] you can have the full 24 megs from RamDoubler2. System 7.5.3 will allow you to run properly under the 32bit mode (I ran into type 11 errors in the Finder under 7.0.1)

There is also an alternative prescription. Although you will need Mode32 and Psudo040 still. RamDoubler v1.6 and a couple Freeware RamDoubler Hacks (Downloadable from InfoMac) such as [MaxRam] and [Pump 1.6] will give you upto 128Megs of ram. (This configuration will not cause the Finder to crash like RD2 did.)

Like all Doctors I have to urge you to stay away from at least ONE thing that might be bad for you. - Stop trying to use Comunicator! Go back to Navigator 2.02 it's smaller and it will run on your system just fine (the Java stuff in Comunicator and Navigator 4.x will just kill the processor - Even if you take the prescription above.)

  31. Most of all the additions in sys7.5 and the extra ram won't hurt so take it immidiately.

Lastly - If you get a few bucks, call MicroMac Technology at 1-800-600-6227. They sell SimmDoubler2's that will allow you to use NORMAL 4 meg SIMMs in the PAL SIMM slots as well as give you 16 slots instead of just 8. (One set of four Doubler2's was $100 plus shipping and it was here in two days) also ask about the MacIIci motherboard upgrade (also $100) which is 32bit CLEAN *AND* uses Normal SIMMS *AND* upgrades you to a 32mhz 030 instead of the 16mhz 020 you're on now.
